1. Dream Up Your Idea
The first step of the custom design process is coming up with ideas for your ring. If you like to draw, you can sketch a few designs yourself. You can also pull from magazines or photos from a web search. However, one of the best ways to generate ideas and come up with a design direction is to set up a Pinterest board. This will allow you to collect and share your thoughts with our design experts. You can also come on down to Whidby Jewelers and browse through our collections for inspiration.

2. Meet Your Designer
Once you have a good idea of what you want your ring to look like, it’s time to meet with an expert Designer at Whidby’s. Your Designer can help finesse your vision by suggesting design elements to compliment your unique vision. From there they’ll use the magic of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) to create a digital model of your piece. Through the screen you’ll be able to see your ring from all angles and easily make changes.

3. Fine-Tune Your Piece to Perfection
Once you’re happy with the CAD, we’ll create a wax or plastic model. This model of the custom piece will show you all the features, overall size and give you a good idea of what the ring will look and feel like when complete. You can then inspect the finer details and last-minute adjustments can be made until your vision is perfected. We’ll work with you on these changes in our store.

4. Prepare for the Real Deal
Next comes our favorite stage! After you’ve given your final approval, we will cast and finish your ring, bringing it to life. The lustrous metal will be shined, textured and detailed according to your design. Each gemstone will be meticulously and masterfully set. After a final inspection, you’ll receive your new one-of-a-kind jewelry.
From concept to completion, your custom ring will only take three to four weeks.
